Once a Tiller, Always a Tiller!

Benefit Concert and Fundraiser for Jason Soudrette.

As some of you know, our original bass player Jason Soudrette has been battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) through extensive chemotherapy treatments with a bone marrow transplant to follow. His stay may be long and the bills will mount so that’s where we all come in to help and show our support!
On April 13th The Tillers will be throwing a huge fund raiser benefit for our pal Jason. We will re-release our debut album, Ludlow Street Rag with previously unreleased tracks from the bands humble beginnings. The CD will be decked out with new (old) photos and other fun stuff from the era in which Jason was our bass thumper. All funds raised from ticket sales and cd sales at the show will go to Jason’s cause.
We’ll also have beer for donation and a slew of things to raffle off like a Cincinnati Reds Package, Cincinnati Zoo Gold Pass, Tattoo gift certificates, 2013 Whispering Beard Folk Fest Weekend Passes and lots more.

New LIVE Release, Farewell to the Historic Southgate House, NOV.10th

Available Now!

Join us (and the Whiskey Bent Valley Boys!) November 10th 2012 for the release of our first live album, Farewell To The Historic Southgate House! We recorded this sold out show last winter just a few days before the best venue in Cincinnati/Newport KY shut down. This place was a home to us and other DIY bands locally and all over the country. From punk to country to jazz to folk, bands brought it all to the Southgate House. We’re sad to see it gone.

The good news is that we’ve got a new home. THE SOUTHGATE HOUSE REVIVAL is the new venue started by the old and trusted owners. Don’t miss our first show at the new venue and the release of a memorial album to the old favorite.

Adventures in Tiller Land.

Hello everybody! We’re only seven months into 2012 and what a crazy year it’s been already. The Tillers, along with our trusty sidekick Gus Bus, have been hitting the road hard through the festival season. In just these few months we’ve banjoed, fiddled, picked and planged through twelve states in the union from Wisconsin down to NC. The St.Louis arch to the streets of NYC. Thanks to all our friends and fans along the way. We love ya!

So whats coming up for the Tillers three you ask? Well, we’ve still got a few festivals left that you don’t want to miss like The Sugar Maple Fest in Madison WI where we’ll be playing alongside Tracy Schwarz and Ginny Hawker in a memorial to Mike Seeger. The almighty Whispering Beard Folk Festival will be returning to Friendship IN where we’re honored to perform on the same stage again with Ramblin’ Jack Elliott. In August we’ll take a trip back down to Todd NC where we have played the past two years with our hero Doc Watson. We will be honoring his memory and singing his songs in a memorial concert for Doc. We will be releasing our much awaited LIVE album in November. It’s titled ‘Farewell to the Historic Southgate House’ and was recorded on the old Southgate stage in Newport KY just a few days before the closing. We’re very excited to show those who couldn’t make it to the show just what a great experience it was and for those who could come, a memory captured forever.

We’ll never forget the Southgate House. Keep an ear to the rail as we’ll be letting you know soon what venue will host our release show. This winter we plan to bunk down and begin recording our next full length album of all new original songs. Come out to our live shows to get some sneak peeks at some new songs we’ve been working on like ‘Shanty Boat’, ‘The Road Neverending’ & ‘Tecumseh on the Battlefield’.

So that’s it for now folks. Keep checking our calendar and join us on Facebook & Twitter for the latest. Thanks for all the support and keep on keepin’ it old timey!

What a year! Past and Present.

Hello everyone. 2011 is over and what a year it was. From Texas to Okemah OK to New Orleans to Brooklyn NY to the far reaches of northern Wisconsin we traversed these great states. We’ll never forget our friends on the road and folks we’ve had the pleasure of sharing the stage with, including another year with our hero Doc Watson. We will also fondly remember the wonderful benefit that we worked so hard to make happen, “To Sing With You Once More” www.tosingwithyouoncemore.com and tip our hats in remembrance of the great Southgate House.

We now venture into another year, and it’s shaping up to be a good one for sure. Catch us in our hometown of Cincinnati for a few winter months. When the snow starts to melt we hit the road for our annual March tour (check out the dates and places under our shows link). The wheels continue to turn after that so keep checking out our website for added dates in a city, county, field, festival, basement or outhouse near you.

We love you all and thank you for your support in the old year. Keep on Tillin’!

To Sing With You Once More, a Memorial for Mike Seeger and Lori Oberst

Come join us on November 19th at The Southgate House in Newport KY for an evening of traditional folk and roots music from around the country. This show will feature acts like John Cohen -w- The Dust Busters, Tracy Schwarz and Ginny Hawker, Lee Sexton -w- Brett Ratliff and John Haywood, and many more artists from Chattanooga, over to St.Louis and across to New York City.
The event will raise money for research and awareness of the cancer known as multiple myeloma. The disease claimed the lives of folk legend Mike Seeger, as well as my mother Lori Oberst. Proceeds from the show will be donated to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation and the Mike Seeger Scholarship Fund.

The Tillers will also be releasing their newest album during the event, and a portion of sales will also be donated to the receiving charities.
