Good afternoon, friends. We’d like to share a song with you.
While sifting through some old lyrics, Mike came across a song he had written about ten years ago called “The Colors of Travelin’ Songs”. Written to the tune of a song by Woody Guthrie and inspired by his message, this is a song of unity that uses music as the common thread connecting us all. We felt it important to put it into the world at this time. Share it around. Spread love, peace, respect and compassion to all mankind.
Shot in Gus’s Garage and produced by Mark Alexander and Jason Gray.
Our big show with Del McCoury has been rescheduled for January 29th at the Nashville Palace. Hope to see you there!

The River Shall Sing!
We are proud to announce our next great adventure. The Tillers will be back on tour this fall, spanning the length of the entire Ohio River. “The Great Ohio River Tour” will feature JD Wilkes of the Legendary Shack Shakers, and will storm cities from the river’s northern source in Pittsburgh to Paducah near its southern terminus, October 15-23. We will meander along river roads, bringing our trademark stomp and holler to small towns, big cities, and various refuse along the way. It’s a tribute to the tributary that birthed our hometowns. Hear us pay it back in song. Let the great river rumble!

Happy 2015 everyone! It’s been a minute since we’ve written a new post here but its been a crazy exciting few months on the home front. This is due in part to the birth of my son William Leeuwen Oberst this past February! He’s a good little lad with long fingers and a very loud holler. He and little August Geil (Sean’s Son) should be starting up their first band in no time! Proud papas indeed.
This summer we’re proud to welcome a new friend into the fold. Mr. Joe Macheret will be doing some fiddling with us and being another short fellow, will be helping me balance out the band height difference. Joe’s been at it for a long time with previous bands like Joe’s Truck Stop and the Urban Pioneers. This year will be one of musical growth and we’re glad that Joe is along for the ride.
The Tillers are just as excited as ever with this year, jam packed with shows and tours galore. 2015 will see us at lots of our favorite festivals like River Roots Fest (Madison IN), Muddy Roots Spring Weekender (Nashville IN), The John Hartford Memorial Festival (Brown Co. IN), Happy Valley Bluegrass Fest (Happy Valley IN), Sayler Park Sustains (Sayler Park, OH), Flatrock Fest (Marion, WI), Whispering Beard Folk Fest (Friendship IN), Muddy Roots Music Fest (Cookeville, TN) and the Saint Louis Folk and Roots Festival (St.Louis MO). We’ll also be traveling to some new and uncharted territory and festival grounds like the great SummerFest (Milwaukee WI). Up to Canada for the Winnipeg Folk Festival (Winnipeg MB CAN). To the ever popular Floyd Fest (Floyd VA) and to SOCAL for the Long Beach Folk Revival Festival (Long Beach CA). Please take a look at out calendar page for more details and such. We’ve got some big ideas for this fall as well. A grand tour of epic proportion.. brewing, stewing and soon to be announced!
Heres to the new year. We’ll see you real soon!
The numbers are in and it looks like we’ve managed to raise $3,157.00 in donation to The Cure Starts Now Foundation during our November Tour For A Cure in honor of Lauren Hill.
